"What would you like to do on your day off, Beautiful?" Don was getting things in order to ensure the farm chores were completed, and he could reschedule business calls.
"I understand you're busy, Don. Could we stay near the farm? How about a walk on the Paris Landing Hotel grounds to the beach bays of the Tennessee River? Then, perhaps some French fries at the hotel?" I cautiously hoped for an affirmative.
"Okay. Sounds like a plan."
Don exceeded expectations on my day off. We shared breakfast at a local eatery, not grande but familiar and with an always kind waitress, followed by a scenic drive through the forests, over the expansive Tennessee River. The hotel stood grandly in the landscape to our left, presenting itself as an inviting sanctuary.
We parked adjacent to the hotel. Made sure to dress warm enough for the cool breeze that drifts over the water. Off we went through the forest and paths headed for the small beach by the edge of the river. The spring sunshine had coaxed more people than just us out into nature. Don, ever adaptable, guided us to the aged concrete steps by the riverbank instead.
